Suzanne Stanton – Legal Counsel

Suzanne Stanton, Corporate Counsel, studied  arts and law at the University of Sydney majoring in Australian Literature and Politics and then practiced law for many years as a partner at Gadens. At Gadens she worked in the Corporate Group  and later headed the Property and Construction Group .  Suzanne advised major commercial clients on all aspects of their property development and holding portfolios working closely with their planners and architects in developing strategies for enhanced property management systems.

She has in-depth knowledge of all aspects of property law including acquisitions and sales, development projects and hotel, commercial, industrial and retail leasing, strata title issues, subdivision, drafting, commercial leasing, and joint ventures. Many of the developments sell overseas and involve liaison with, and advice regarding, the Foreign Investment Review Board.

Her experience includes involvement in several complex multi-million dollar sales of real estate under instructions from vendors, purchasers, managers, receivers and banks. These matters have ranged from residential properties, farms and luxury home unit developments to hotels resorts and shopping centres. Suzanne’s work on these projects has also included financing,  leasing work and consultancy regarding improvements of the properties before the sale to maximise potential income or re-sale value. She has excellent contacts with other consultants and within government departments and agencies. When necessary she coordinates and project manages our relationship with legal specialists in areas such as tax and revenue.

Her clients have included KFC, OPSM, David Jones, The Memo Group (Singapore), Burmah Fuels, The Kennard Group, Develco Pty Limited , The Peppers Group, Horwaths and the Northborne Group.

Suzanne has acted for Mawland since the late 1980’s first on our project at Lilianfels and thereafter has been integrally involved in our property work, particularly in respect of negotiation and management of the QStation leasing and development. She joined Mawland as Corporate Counsel in house in 2004 and is now a Director of Mawland QStation Pty Limited.

 Suzanne has appeared as an expert witness in the NSW Supreme Court on the subjects of leasing , old system title and covenant compliance. She was one of the first practitioners to work in the area of Community Title and has written many papers and lectures on themed development. She is in demand as a speaker and presenter in this area.

Suzanne is president of the Board of the Rainbow Club, a charity which works to provide swimming lessons to disabled children. She was previously a director of the YMCA and sits on the Ravenswood Foundation.

She brings to our consulting arm a strong expertise in legal drafting and negotiation, documentation project management and tracking skills and an absolute commitment to meeting deadlines.
