  Lilianfels Guesthouse in the Blue Mountains

This was one of our most beautiful and up-market projects. The heritage listed Lilianfels House was built in 1889 and overlooks the Jamison Valley at Echo Point. We identified the market potential of the Lilianfels site in 1987, developed the concept, undertook feasibility studies, managed the proposal through a complex approval process and coordinated the adaptations.
The conservation and adaptive re-use of the old stables to create the Guest House involved:

  • managing all architectural design, fitout design, engineering-structural, civil, electrical and hydraulics works;
  • managing design and construction contracts for air conditioning, pool design and construction, operational systems (telephone, computers, MATV), kitchen, restaurant, and staff amenities;
  • managing infrastructure and services, such as road way civil works, stormwater system and external lighting;
  • managing landscaping works, such as removal of mature trees prior to excavation (and storage on site for later use), driveways, fences, tennis court;
  • managing fitout design for accommodation rooms, common areas, lounges, libraries, spa and gym;
  • managing procurement of specialised joinery and artworks, linen, crockery, uniforms, furniture items for accommodation, lounges, restaurants and offices; and
  • setting up hotel operations through to front desk operation.

We created Lilianfels Restaurant by restoring and adapting Lilianfels House. Landscaping of the gardens involved constructing new gravel drive ways, entry gates, croquet lawn, turfing, and extensive re-planting of mature trees that were removed and stored on the site 12 months prior to completion.

The $35 Million development resulted in an 86 room, 5 star hotel, conference centre and adaptive reuse of the historic Lilianfels House into a signature restaurant. Mawland coordinated all Furniture Fixtures and Electrical (FF&E) procurement, conference facilities and unique kitchens.
